Where to go in 2017

Expat Getaways in 2017

hong kong

Welcome to 2017! In case you missed last weeks post 2016 was amazing! I’m now in full planning mode for the next twelve months.

Of course you’ve got to leave a few things up to chance so we’ll see how this goes.

Burma

This is definitely happening! In just a few weeks in fact. Myanmar has been on the list for a long time and everyone I’ve met absolutely raves about it. They also talk about going before it changes completely so hopefully we haven’t left it too late. Like a lot of our adventures it will be a whirlwind trip, only a week long, but I’m hoping that it is long enough to squeeze in some of the key sights.

Africa

Ok so that is a bit vague and I do realise that Africa is a big place. The plan is Botswana, Victoria Falls and Cape Town but that is subject to change depending on how far the finances stretch… Fingers crossed we can pull it off as planned!

London

Specifically to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on stage. Yes I’m a big kid at heart! Also my teenage niece is obsessed with all things Harry Potter. She begged her parents to try and get tickets and after multiple midnight sessions in the online queue a miracle happened. She will be spending her 14th birthday on her first overseas adventure and as an Aunty who likes to encourage these things I will naturally be there. CAN. NOT. WAIT.

China

Zhangjiajie, otherwise known as the Avatar Mountains. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this natural beauty so I figure it is about time I get out there and experience it for myself.

Lombok

Two wonderful friends of mine have planned a destination wedding and Andrew and I are lucky enough to be invited. Takes the holiday planning out of my hands and I get a beach break while watching two beautiful people walk down the aisle. Happiness all around!

Scuba Diving

I haven’t pinned down an exact location yet, but more scuba diving needs to happen in 2017. I only got 8 dives in last year and I feel like a fish out of water! I’ve got a few places in mind; Palau, Philippines, Thailand, Maldives… we’ll have to see which way the stars align to make it happen.

Quick City Breaks

Our 48 Hour series has been a big hit in 2016 so that will be continuing this year. First city on the cards is Shanghai. I’ve eased myself into China with visits to Guilin and the countryside so it seems about time I found out what the cities have to offer. I’ve slated Seoul for a long weekend as well. It seems to have become the popular expat getaway among my friends so might be time to go see what all the fuss is about.

I’m hopeful that there is even more on the cards for 2017, but for now we’ll just have to wait and see. Where are you planning on travelling in 2017? Tell us in the comments below!
